1、 0.23dmd, 0.33dmd, 0.47dmd chip


In short, different numbers in front of DMD chip represent different sizes. At present, the chip sizes commonly used in projectors are 0.23 inch, 0.33 inch and 0.47 inch respectively.


0.23dmd chip can throw 960 * 540 pixels, and the native resolution is 480p; 0.33dmd chip can throw 1280 * 720 pixels, and the native resolution is 720p; The 0.47dmd chip can project 1920 * 1080 pixels, and the native resolution is 1080p.



2、 1080p difference between 0.23dmd, 0.33dmd and 0.47dmd chips
When we buy the projector, we may find that whether it is 0.23dmd chip, 0.33dmd chip or 0.47dmd chip, the merchants may advertise 1080p resolution. Is there no difference between the three? Of course not. First of all, we need to know that the native resolution of these three chips of different sizes is different as mentioned above. How can the 0.23dmd chip with a native resolution of 480p and the 0.33dmd chip with a native resolution of 720p reach 1080p?


Here we need to briefly understand the XPR dithering technology of Texas Instruments: XPR dithering technology is to move the chip by half a pixel, project a frame multiple times, and superimpose it by using the visual persistence phenomenon. Then the products using 0.23dmd chip and 0.33dmd chip are added to TSP optical module. Through high-speed dithering micro mirror, the number of pixels is doubled, which is close to 1080p. This is the 1080p resolution advertised by merchants.


However, the actual imaging pixels are determined by the physical resolution, so only the products using 0.47dmd chip have a real 1080p resolution. Neither 0.23dmd nor 0.33dmd chip is close to 1080p in physical quantity. The naturally displayed picture is not as good as the real 1080p of 0.47dmd chip in terms of clarity or color. Therefore, when we buy the projector, if we want to really 1080p picture effect, we must identify the product with 0.47dmd chip. You can check the parameter table of the projector.
