What is the principle of the invention of the projector?

Before the emergence of projectors, we mainly used slide projectors. Nowadays, projectors can also be said to be a special kind of slide projectors. The earliest light and shadow technology was a "magic slide" invented by a Jesuit priest named Atanas Keshe in the 17th century. It was originally mainly used for entertainment, using the principle of light and shadow to embody the story on a screen, a bit similar to shadow puppetry. So speaking of it, the earliest slide projector was invented by the Chinese, and shadow puppets and revolving lanterns have been recognized all over the world.

In fact, projectors are inseparable from the development of animation and movies. Later, with the development of light and shadow technology, projectors were separated from animation and movies. In the true sense, the first projection was born in 1640. A Jesuit priest named Chisel invented a slide projector called a magic lamp. Using the principle of reflecting light from a lens and a mirror, a series of pictures were reflected on the wall. On the face of it, it was a great invention at the time, and it was quite popular.

After World War II, mankind ushered in the third technological revolution. The invention of computers and the emergence of integrated circuits also brought projectors into the digital age. In 1989, Epson and Sony had the core technology of LCD panels. In the same year, the world's first LCD projector, Epson's VPL-2000, was born, setting off an LCD frenzy in the projection industry. From the ancestor of projectors-CRT projection technology, to LCD technology that dominated the market for ten years, to DLP technology that is now behind. I won't go into details because of limited space. Among them, DLP technology, which is most popular among home projection enthusiasts, originated in 1987 when Texas Instruments developed the DMD chip, so DLP products entered the projection market in 1996.

Let's briefly talk about the imaging principle of the projector: A projector is a projection device used to magnify and display images, and basically all types of projectors are the same. The projector first irradiates light on the image display element to produce an image, and then projects it through the lens. The image display elements of the projector include a transmissive type that uses transmitted light to generate an image and a reflective type that uses reflected light to generate an image. No matter which type, the light of the projection lamp is divided into three colors of red, green, and blue, and then images of various colors are generated. Because the element itself can only perform monochrome display, it is necessary to use three elements to generate three-color components. Then the three-color images are combined into one image through a prism, and finally projected onto the screen through the lens. Image display elements include 3 types. Among them, there are two types of liquid crystals, namely, a transmissive liquid crystal element that uses a light-transmitting liquid crystal and a reflective liquid crystal element that can reflect light. The latter element is DMD (digital micro-mirror element), each pixel uses a micro-mirror to generate images by changing the direction of reflected light. Each of the three components has advantages and disadvantages. For example, Dangbei Projection is a smart home projector with DLP technology, which is a well-known projector brand on the market. It has a long life span, simple operation, and good audio and video quality.
